Xavier, tell us about yourself and your story before LGI
My parents were winegrowers in Sancerre so for as long as I can remember, I have always been in direct contact with the world of wine. My brothers have also taken up the family baton. My passion for wine – a product linked to our culture and the French ‘art de vivre’ – developed during my viticultural and winemaking studies, started in Burgundy and completed at Montpellier School of Agronomy.
And what about your LGI journey?
I joined the company in August 2001 on a 4-month contract to oversee the winemaking in our partner cellars – and I never left! The foresight of Alain Grignon (the founder of LGI), the relevance of the business model and the quality of the young team that we were, convinced me to stick around and join the adventure. For around ten years, surrounded by a solid team, I focused on developing relationships with our partner wineries and bottling partners. My mission was also to participate in the development of new wines and projects with our clients, which allowed me to discover and understand the needs and complexities of the different markets.
In 2011, Alain Grignon transferred the company to the management team and I became Managing Director when he retired in January 2014.
LGI Wines is an important player in the wine industry. What do you think makes the company unique?
LGI is unique in the quality and stability of its team. Our team truly listens to customers in order to offer them the best quality/price ratio in the south of France and allow them to develop their business.
Meanwhile, LGI is also there to find markets for the wines produced by its partner wineries, at fair and sustainable prices for their winegrowers. Thanks to our technical team, we work very closely with them throughout the whole year.
What can we expect from LGI Wines in the coming years?
LGI will continue to cultivate our core values, to always improve our listening to the market, curiosity, technical innovation, and thus respond to all developments in the wine market. Believe me when I say we will not get bored…!
Our History
![](https://www.lgiwines.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/12/LGI-WINES-1999@2x.jpg)
Creation of LGI Wines by three eminent wine and distribution professionals - Thierry Leduc, Mark Lynton and Alain Grignon - to sell Languedoc wines to export markets. LGI = (Leduc/Lynton Grignon International).
The leitmotif of the founders: respond to the needs of the market, rather than imposing products on them.

The British market has always occupied a dominant spot for LGI WINES, which is why we created our subsidiary there in 2004. Today, Claire Sheppard is in charge of this strategic market. Claire has extensive UK market expertise.

With the development of the Chinese economy and its increasing wine consumption, we started to expand into this ‘market of the future’ in 2006. Thanks to Jérôme Sabate, a Languedoc oenologist based in China since 1998, we quickly developed our business there, opening the office in 2008. Jérôme is assisted by Xu Lin.

In order to ensure LGI's long-term viability, Alain Grignon begins a process of transferring the company to its managers.

As is often the case at LGI, meetings create opportunities. That of Antoine Comps - a young French salesperson living in South Korea - encouraged us to open our next subsidiary, LGI Korea. Antoine is based in Seoul and operates in several Asian markets.
